Nearly 400 former USAID employees are involved in three legal cases challenging actions taken during the dismantling of the agency and seeking enforcement of the protections Congress established for career federal employees. The three cases challenge alleged violations of due process and civil-service protections, age discrimination in workforce reductions, and unlawful actions against DEIA employees, with outcomes that could shape legal protections for federal workers government-wide. 

 

The consequences could extend far beyond USAID. These cases could set important precedent for how federal workforce protections are interpreted and enforced in the future - affecting public servants across the federal government. At stake is whether the laws governing due process, merit-based employment, and other workplace protections remain meaningful when an administration takes sweeping action against a federal workforce.
